Key Findings
Two Questions
-
If self-determination can make youth suicide disappear from Indigenous communities, why does our school system operate through mechanisms that destroy self-determination?
-
If a crystal placed in a garden can βcenter the energy of a space,β what happens when the crystal is the student β when the game says you are the shard, and you are seeking your musician?
The Chandler & Lalonde Discovery
All 196 First Nations bands in British Columbia studied over 5 years (1987β1992):
- Communities with all 6 cultural continuity factors: ZERO youth suicides
- Communities with none: rates up to 800Γ the national average
- 111 of 196 bands had zero youth suicides during the entire study window
Self-determination is not a therapeutic intervention. It is a political condition that saves lives.
The CDC Evidence
- 39.7% of US high school students report persistent sadness/hopelessness
- 20.4% seriously considered suicide
- Failing grades = 5Γ increased risk of suicide attempt
- 48 of 52 studies link academic pressure to mental health harm
The Crystal-in-Garden Metaphor
In CrySword SAGA, the player IS the crystal shard β mineral consciousness seeking a musician bond. The game mirrors the educational reality: the student is the center of energy, seeking connection, awaiting someone who will play them into existence.
