TEK8 Learning Lotus: A Scholastic Framework
Mapping the Crystal Cycle to IB-Aligned Holistic Education
This is a summary. The full paper is available with complete citations.
Key Findings
The TEK8 Learning Lotus provides a complete curriculum architecture that aligns with International Baccalaureate (IB) frameworks while centering Indigenous knowledge systems and holistic development.
The Crystal Cycle as Curriculum
The 10-step Crystal Cycle — Coin, Music, Gather, Craft, Quest, Rest, Play, Map, Yield, Close — maps directly to IB’s Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills and Areas of Knowledge:
- Each step activates a different TEK8 petal (die/element)
- Each petal corresponds to an IB knowledge area (Arts, Natural Sciences, History, Ethics, Indigenous Knowledge, Human Sciences, Religious Knowledge, Mathematics)
- The daily cycle functions as a breathing pattern: intention in, gratitude out
IB Alignment
The framework maps to both IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP):
- 8 TEK8 petals → 8 IB knowledge areas
- 8 wellness dimensions → IB Learner Profile attributes
- Crystal Cycle steps → IB Approaches to Learning skills
- Lotus Exhibition → IB Exhibition/Personal Project assessment model
The Attainment System
TEK8’s Roll/Maximum system ensures no subject dominates. A D4 roll of 3 (75%) is mechanically equivalent to a D20 roll of 15 (75%). This directly addresses the academic pressure crisis documented in 48 of 52 studies linking pressure to mental health harm (Steare et al., 2023).
